Maintenance Man
So here I am, innocently sewing away and Clay says to me, "You need to oil your sewing machine! Can't you hear it squeaking?" Of course I can hear it squeaking...and how do you know anything about sewing machines?
You see, I am a self-taught sewer, and nobody has every told me to oil it periodically. It does make sense though, I guess. Here I am, thinking of all of the amazing things I will sew, while Clay is seeing things from a completely different angle. Of course my engineer of a husband dives right in taking the whole thing apart, oiling it, cleaning it, and putting it back together (minus one mystery screw). Thank you Clay! No more squeaking :)
*I love the head lamp by the way! Makes you look like a professional!*
And of course, I can't leave Emmi out. Here she is, quality control, making sure Clay does things just right :) How I love my little family!!!

Yadkin Valley, here we come!
Clay and I get very few days on which we can take day trips. It has to
be his 2nd day off work as well as a day I'm not working. So, Friday
was the day! We headed to Mt. Airy to check out "A simple place, a
simpler way of life." Our trip included browsing shops, touring the
Andy Griffith museum (and seeing Thelma Lou!!), and of course eating.
We chowed down at Barney's Cafe for lunch, which serves burgers and
country sides, and treated ourselves with a caramel apple crumble pie at
Miss Angel's Heavenly Pies.
Yes, it was indeed heavenly! |
Much to our surprise, Mt. Airy was hosting a Drive In that day. Clay's favorite part was the car run by steam. It was ironic that we saw this particular car (a Stanley Steamer) because Clay had just watched a show on how the steam car runs. He kept saying, "That's probably the neatest thing I've ever seen!"
Towards the end of the day, we headed to Shelton Vineyards. The drive there was beautiful. Everything seemed greener and healthier than here in the desert of Concord. We took some back roads and saw some cute houses and farms. We took the winery tour with a young guide named Arnold who had a Will-Ferrel-like sense of humor. He kept joking with the huge group of church ladies that was taking the tour with us who barely paid attention because they were entertaining each other. The wine tasting was great...I found a few new favorites.
Days like these are my favorite: quaint places, good food, fun, and of course, spending QT with my QT.
